Smart Wi-Fi outlet plugs are a great way to start making your home smart. They are the perfect devices for turning on the nightstand light with your morning wake up alarm. Or finding out once and for all if that new washer machine actually saves money with a full load of towels or two halves loads? Some smart plugs actually have power monitors that can give power usage stats of your current connected devices. One plug below actually monitors your outlet’s stats and delivers it right to your phone. These few features are just a window into the potential options at your fingertips, being able to control and monitor the inner happenings of your home from the backyard or half around the world.

Recently it seems shopping for smart home products can often be a “needle in a haystack” scenario as the market has several options to choose from with some having mixed reviews that are sometimes…let’s just say questionable. Fortunately, I have gathered a few well-known devices that I would recommend and I have created a short list below to assist those of you looking for more information on your purchase. I currently have all three plugs below running without any issues to date, and I have to say they are all amazing devices that get the job done quietly and without any headaches. Okay, let’s get started!

Wemo Mini Smart Plug by Belkin

Belkin’s Wemo Mini Plug is a great device that doesn’t take up much outlet space. The Mini Smart Plug has a wide range of uses with an 1800 watt max limit, it will always be the perfect fit from controlling a small night light all the way up to some bigger items like a toaster oven or coffee maker. No Hub necessary as the setup is a breeze using the Wemo App. The Wemo App has a well thought out and smooth user interface that is easy to navigate with robust options and features to customize your experience and needs. Check out my Wemo Smart Light Switch Review for how I really feel about their App! The Mini Plug has been working away in my house day after day without any issues or network hiccups. If I would make a suggestion this would be my first just because the app has so many features.

Kasa Smart Wi-Fi Plug Mini by TP Link

TP-Link is well known for their networking devices and routers, so of course they have this Wi-Fi thing down to a science right? They absolutely do! If you have ever owned a TP-Link router then you know about their user’s friendly interfaces, and that same experience is carried over to their Kasa Smart App. Want to know my thoughts with the Kasa App? Point your browser at the Kasa Smart Light Wi-Fi Switch Review and you will not be disappointed. This Smart Plug also carries the same 1800 watt power limit for connected items, so that 1800 watt electric space heater is perfect when it’s getting cold outside. With its sleek and compact design, there are no issues of outlet space. On the side you will find the power button, this location is different from the other plugs. Not a concern to me as the power button is usually only used once during setup anyway. If you are looking for a device from an industry known manufacturer then this device is a good alternative. With a few less comparable app features at a good price for those who want to test the waters with minimal commitment.

T Teckin SP20 by Teckin

I recently saw the Teckin Smart Mini Plug being sold on Amazon for less than twenty dollars, for two devices – No way, I thought! Needless to say, I was skeptically interested. Further reading of the features showed that the app includes an Energy Consumption monitor for power usage in watts, amps, and voltage. Seriously – Energy monitoring?! Not just for watts during use but also for the outlet! I’m talking high tech electrical feedback, for less than the cost of one name brand plug. Needless to say, it was in my cart one day and thanks to Amazon two day shipping, plugged into the wall a few days later. Same 1800 watt power limit as the other switches detailed above. Matte white finish with an Orange status light. The controlling app, Smart Lite has some decent features and options to navigate and explore.  I have to say this device is definitely a good alternative to some of the more prominent devices found in the market today. Check out the full review of the Teckin Smart Plug and App.

These smart plugs are all great when comparing to other devices currently available. Their simplicity compliments their versatility along with plug and play setup! With all three switches, you have the availability of connecting them to the smart device services and apps such as Amazon Echo, Google Home Assistant, IFTTT and others for more control. All these switches do not require a HUB to get started and they all operate properly and quickly without any hiccups during setup and daily use. All of these switches deliver excellent performance with some significant features and I wouldn’t hesitate to add another one of these devices to my setup any day!
